Bhiwandi residents' wait to travel to Thane by Metro may end soon. The work on the Thane-Bhiwandi Metro project is expected to be completed by December, and the Metro service is likely to start in the same month. This information was given by former Union Minister of State Kapil Patil on Friday during an inspection of the Metro project. He said that the entire credit for the Bhiwandi Metro project goes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He does not want to indulge in any kind of politics over the credit for the project.

After the trial of the Metro train was completed, Kapil Patil inspected the Metro stations located at Dhamankar Naka, Anjurphata and Kalher on Friday. During this, officials of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) gave a presentation on the project at Kalher station and informed about the current status of the construction work.

During the inspection, the issue of hurdles in providing the necessary space for installing lifts and escalators at Anjurphata station also came to light. Regarding the acquisition of the land concerned, Kapil Patil spoke to the land owner over the phone and appealed to cooperate for the project. He expressed confidence that the problems related to land acquisition would be resolved soon. Kapil Patil said that Metro has now become a necessity for Bhiwandi. With the service starting in December, the commute for lakhs of citizens will be fast and convenient. This will reduce the problem of traffic jams in the city as well as accelerate industrial development. He informed that in the year 2016, considering the traffic problem of Bhiwandi, he had demanded the starting of a Metro service from Thane to Kalyan via Bhiwandi. The then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had approved this proposal. In the year 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the Bhoomi Pujan of the project.

Advised to avoid politics of credit

Regarding the credit for the Metro project, Patil said that the credit for the Bhiwandi Metro goes to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the people of Bhiwandi will never forget his contribution. Mahayuti leaders and workers should respect each other's contributions. If someone takes credit for the project, they should also mention the efforts of those who worked for it. He said that he has made continuous efforts for the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Metro project.
