In 2024, India achieved remarkable success in hockey, cricket, and wrestling. The national teams won gold and bronze medals on the international stage, while the government invested crores of rupees in sports development.

During the year 2024, India's sports sector witnessed several significant turning points. Under new policies, efforts to train young athletes have accelerated. National teams delivered notable performances in international competitions, especially in cricket, hockey, and wrestling. These achievements are backed by scientific training, better facilities, and international exposure. In this article we will highlight major sporting events, player statistics, and upcoming programs. Additionally, the government‑established “Sports Development Fund” invested 150 crore rupees in 2024, providing support to regional clubs and educational institutions.

During the 2024 Asian Games, the Indian women's hockey team made history by winning its first gold medal, showcasing its strength to the world. With 23 goals in 10 matches, the team defeated Japan 4-1 in the final. Coach Anil Patel described the victory as a “symbol of teamwork and dedication.” Moreover, the men's basketball team secured a bronze medal, underscoring its progress on the international stage. This triumph ensured an additional investment of 200 crore rupees in the hockey fund, which will provide better training facilities for young talent.

In August 2024, India recorded a 3-0 series win against England in a three‑match series. In the first match, Virat Kohli played a pivotal role with 102 runs, while in the second match Shikhar Dhawan accelerated the powerplay with a rapid 58 runs. In the third match India posted more than 250 runs to clinch victory, re‑establishing its reliability in the series. This win charted a path for the Board of Control for Cricket in India to prepare better for the 2025 World Cup, where the team expects to win 3-1 in 20 matches.

In the 2024 National Wrestling Championship, Rajasthan's young wrestler Rajesh Singh won the gold medal in the 75 kilogram category, achieving 14 wins out of 15 matches. His triumph earned the state wrestling club an additional grant of 50 crore rupees, which will be used to upgrade training facilities. Additionally, the Wrestling Federation of India has planned to win three medals at the 2025 Olympic qualifiers on the international stage.

In the coming year 2025, India will host the 2026 Asian Games in Bengaluru on 5-6 June, while Lucknow is being prepared for the 2025 Commonwealth Games. The government has announced an investment of 300 crore rupees for these events, which will improve infrastructure, security, and athlete facilities. At the same time, the National Sports Federation has decided to grant international recognition to ten new sports for the 2024-25 period.

These achievements and plans make it clear that India's sporting landscape is continuously evolving and is ready to reach even greater heights in the years ahead.
