Minister Pratap Sarnike Gives Administration Ultimatum, Warns He Will Quit Ministerial Post and Join Protest if Work Not Completed on Time

Mira‑Bhayandar, d. 21 October 2026 (City News Mumbai). Considering the growing population of Mira‑Bhayandar city and the shortage of health facilities, the project to build a state‑of‑the‑art 400‑bed super‑specialty government hospital on reservation number 302, named after the late Gilbert Mendosa, has gained momentum. Maharashtra’s Transport Minister and Deputy Minister of Dharashiv district, Pratap Sarnike, inspected the proposed hospital site on Wednesday and held a review meeting with the municipal corporation administration, officials of the Urban Development Department and the developer.

Minister Sarnike directed that the hospital construction be completed and handed over to the state government by 28 June 2028. He issued a clear warning that if the work is not finished within the stipulated deadline, he will launch a movement irrespective of his ministerial position.

Estimated cost of 400 to 500 crore rupees

The proposed hospital will be built over an area of about 3 lakh square feet. The plan is to construct a 13‑storey building, including a basement. According to the press note, the project is expected to cost the state government roughly 400 to 500 crore rupees.

The hospital is proposed to have 375 regular beds and 25 special beds, modeled on a civil hospital. The special beds will be reserved for the treatment of cancer and burn patients. In addition, a separate training centre will be set up for the training of 200 nurses. Accommodation facilities for doctors and nurses are also proposed within the same building.

Construction and approval process

According to the press note, the hospital proposal was approved during the tenure of Chief Minister Ek Nath Shinde, through the Construction TDR, by the Deputy Chief Minister. Even after the developer approached the court, the municipal corporation maintained its position under legal procedures.

It has been disclosed that 6 crore rupees will be spent by the state government for the project’s design and consultancy. A Delhi‑based firm has been awarded the consultancy work.

Review of timeline with officials

After inspecting the land of reservation number 302, Minister Pratap Sarnike met with the municipal commissioner, urban development officials, the district collector, the chief engineer and the developer. The meeting reviewed the project’s timeline and progress.

'If the hospital is not built on time, I will protest'

Minister Pratap Sarnike said that Mira‑Bhayandar’s population is growing rapidly and that this hospital is essential so that ordinary citizens do not have to travel to other cities for treatment. He said the developer has been given a final deadline and no further delay will be tolerated.

He warned that if the hospital is not ready to serve the public within the agreed time, he will descend on the streets and launch a mass movement, irrespective of his ministerial post.
