Former Indian Air Force Group Captain Abhinandan Wartman has joined regional airline FLY91 as a pilot.

Group Captain Abhinandan Wartman, who served in the Indian Air Force for more than two decades, recently resigned from service and chose a new professional direction. He gained nationwide recognition in 2019 for his daring actions and high‑level aerial combat skills during the airspace violation incident with Pakistan. During his military career he logged over 1,500 flight hours on various advanced fighter aircraft, especially the fighter jets purchased by Saudi Arabia, and participated in numerous international exercises. Leveraging this experience, he is now joining FLY91, a new regional airline being developed to connect India’s small and medium‑sized cities, as a pilot.

FLY91 had been seeking experienced pilots to expand its network, strengthen safety standards and boost passenger confidence. The company’s spokesperson said that the addition of seasoned military pilots like Abhinandan Wartman will take the airline’s operational capacity and service quality to new heights. He also noted that Wartman has been assigned to fly on the airline’s major routes, particularly the connections in North‑East and Central India, where his expertise is expected to bring a notable improvement in operational reliability.

Aviation experts believe that such transitions will raise the level of professionalism and discipline in Indian civil aviation. They added that the entry of military pilots into the civilian aerospace sector can prove instrumental in adopting new technologies and safety protocols. Abhinandan Wartman described this move as “a new challenge to make the nation’s air travel safer and more accessible,” making clear that he is ready to take his professional life to new heights.
