Bhiwandi: A controversy has arisen over a press conference held in the mayor's office of Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation headquarters by former MLA Raees Kasam Sheikh. Social worker Parameshwar Ambhore has sent a letter to the Municipal Commissioner requesting an investigation into the entire matter and demanding legal action against those involved if any rules are found to have been violated.

According to Ambhore, on the afternoon of 31 August 2026, MLA Raees Kasam Sheikh held a press conference in the mayor's office located at the municipal headquarters. The complaint alleges that during the event, the municipal deputy commissioner (Revenue and Education Department) and other officials were present. It also accuses the press conference of making requests against various governmental decisions and the decisions of the municipal corporation's general body.

The complainant cites a circular issued on 11 March 2016 by the Maharashtra Government's General Administration Department, stating that the government has issued clear guidelines regarding meetings between MPs, legislators, and government officials, as well as personal visits. The allegation is that, disregarding these directives, senior municipal officials and staff are called to such events.

Ambhore accuses that during the press conference statements were made against the municipal tax system, thereby attempting to sow doubt and dissatisfaction among taxpayers and citizens towards the municipal administration. The complaint also states that the video recording of the press conference was broadcast on social media and various media outlets.

The social worker has demanded that the Municipal Commissioner conduct a thorough investigation into the press conference held on 31 August in the mayor's office. If the event is found to be contrary to government rules and circulars, legal action should be taken against the relevant persons in accordance with the regulations. Copies of the complaint have also been sent to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, the Principal Secretary, and the Principal Secretary of the Department of Urban Development.
