State Sports: A New Direction for Sports Development at the State Level

City News Mumbai•8 September 2026 at 04:21 am•1 views•2 min read

Satet Sports has taken several significant steps in India's sports sector over the past two decades. This article presents a detailed analysis of the organization's establishment, financial structure, recent achievements, and future plans.

Satet Sports Drives Significant Transformation in India’s Sports Landscape Over Two Decades

Satet Sports, an autonomous state sports authority, has brought significant changes to India’s sports landscape over the past two decades. Established in 2004, its primary objective is to identify, train, and support competitive players at the national level. To nurture talent across various sports disciplines, Satet Sports has partnered with schools, colleges, and local clubs. Under this framework, training camps, talent‑scouting programs, and inter‑state competitions provide a platform for young athletes. This article will analyze Satet Sports’ current status, achievements, and future plans.

Satet Sports is managed by an independent board comprising the state sports minister, experienced coaches, and sports‑management experts. In the fiscal year 2023‑2024, the authority received a grant of 250 crore rupees, of which 60% was allocated to infrastructure development, 25% to training programmes, and the remaining amount was invested in marketing and research. To ensure transparent accounting, the board has adopted a policy of issuing annual audits and public reports.

In the past five years, Satet Sports has prepared athletes who have won a total of 48 medals across 12 sports at the national level. At the 2022 National Sports Fair, a runner trained by the organization secured a gold medal in the 1500‑meter race, while the women’s kabaddi team clinched first place. Additionally, Satet Sports attracted 250 participants from 15 states to the Inter‑state Cycling Challenge held in 2023, creating new opportunities for sports tourism.

In 2021, Satet Sports established 18 sports academies in the state’s major cities, offering modern facilities for athletics, archery, and water sports. These academies are accredited by the National Sports Council (NSC) and provide training in accordance with international standards. Under the partnership, the organization has signed equipment‑supply and technical‑support agreements with five major sports brands, reducing training costs by 30%.

Over the next five years, Satet Sports aims to double athletes’ participation in international competitions by 2029, for which it plans to establish new high‑performance centres and launch special initiatives for alternative sports such as e‑sports. The government has approved an additional investment of 120 crore rupees in this direction, which will expand the talent‑scouting network into rural areas. As a result of these strategic steps, Satet Sports is expected to be recognised as a key collaborator in the National Sports Policy.
