Tense atmosphere at SFI march in front of the Secretariat in Kerala

In Kerala, the Students' Federation of India (SFI) organized a large‑scale march before the state secretariat, creating a tense atmosphere in the capital. The march was held as a protest against the state's new educational policies and discipline issues in universities. Student organizations have expressed dissatisfaction over recently implemented grading systems, changes in admission procedures, and scholarship cuts in several universities. In this context, SFI decided to reach the secretariat and present its demands directly to the government.

During the march, the police implemented extensive security arrangements, including reversing fences, point‑to‑point control, and the use of water streams. Several areas had traffic temporarily closed, causing inconvenience to ordinary citizens. Small skirmishes broke out between opposing groups and SFI supporters in some places, but the police used non‑lethal forces to keep the situation under control. Many students and parents view this march as an exercise of peace and democratic rights, while the state government described it as disrupting public order.

The state's education minister later said that the government is ready to listen to students' concerns and expressed a desire to establish a dialogue platform. He also stated that any form of violence or illegal actions would be dealt with harshly. Meanwhile, SFI proposed sending a representative team to the government for further dialogue, hoping to resolve this tense situation.
