A "mega" shipbuilding project worth 27 thousand crores in the pipeline...!

Mumbai, 15th (Anant Nalavde)- An ambitious project that will give a big boost to the marine industrial development of Maharashtra is going to take shape at Dighi, Raigad. An MoU was signed on Tuesday in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis between National Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Park Maharashtra Limited (NShipML) and Mazgaon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) to participate in the proposed "greenfield" shipbuilding industrial cluster as a major shipbuilding hub. For this project, there will be a proposed investment of about 27 thousand crore rupees from MDL, and the goal of creating about 90 thousand jobs in the state has been set.

MDL has set a target of building a shipbuilding capacity of at least 2 million gross tonnage per annum at Dighi. Hence, the traditional shipbuilding capacity of Mumbai will be joined by major industrial expansion in the Dighi of Raigad, and modern infrastructure will also be built for the construction of large commercial ships.

This greenfield shipbuilding cluster is being developed through NShipML, jointly established by the Maharashtra Maritime Board and the Mumbai Port Authority and this project linked to the Centre's Greenfield Shipbuilding Cluster Development Plan will also complement the objectives of "Maritime Amrit Kal Vision 2047".
The impact of this project will not be limited to shipbuilding but a large ecosystem of engineering, equipment manufacturing, raw materials, logistics, suppliers and service industries is expected to emerge around it. As a result, along with the creation of new employment opportunities in Raigad, the way will be paved to increase the competitiveness of Maharashtra in the domestic and global maritime industry, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis himself expressed his firm belief while talking to the media representatives present.

MDL Chairman and Managing Director Captain Jagmohan explained that MDL's experience in developing complex shipbuilding, engineering, project management and domestic supplier arrangements will be useful for the Dighi project. The Chief Minister also said that there is an effort to build a modern and competitive shipbuilding facility of world level with the cooperation of all the concerned parties.

Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane, Ports and Transport Department Additional Chief Secretary Sanjay Sethi, Business Development General Manager Sanjay Kumar Singh, Chief Minister's Additional Chief Secretary Lokesh Chandra, Principal Secretary Dr. Srikar Pardeshi and others were present. Captain Jagmohan, Chairman and Managing Director on behalf of MDL and Pradeep P., Managing Director on behalf of Nshipml signed the agreement.

This project of Dighi is not only a subject of investment of 27 thousand crores, but it can give strength to Maharashtra's efforts to develop a new center of large industries in the maritime belt of Mumbai-Navi Mumbai-Raigarh. This project will be important for the government led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, bringing together three issues of major investment, employment and port-based industries.
