Under this scheme, a total investment of 15 अरब rupees will be made in the 2024-25 financial year, aimed at providing subsidies, improving irrigation, and enhancing market access for farmers. This move is intended to strengthen Shiv Sena’s rural policy and reestablish its image among farmers.

Shiv Sena was founded in 1966 by Narendra Modi and has since played a significant role in Maharashtra politics. The party has allied with the BJP on several occasions and, in the 2019 assembly elections, won 21 seats and joined the government. Currently, Shiv Sena’s goal is to prioritize rural development and improve the economic conditions of farmers.

Under the new scheme, farmers will receive a grant of up to 50,000 rupees, and subsidized loans of up to 30 percent will be made available. Additionally, by the end of 2024, 200 new irrigation projects will be launched, benefiting 1.5 crore acres of agricultural land. Shiv Sena said this initiative will promote job creation and economic inclusion in rural areas.

Opposition parties gave mixed reactions to the announcement. The Maharashtra Abhivruddhi Party said the scheme might only benefit urban areas, while Congress emphasized potential lack of transparency and oversight in implementation. The public expressed both hope and doubt about the move.

Analysts believe Shiv Sena seeks to boost its popularity among farmers with this step, which could give it an advantage in the upcoming 2025 assembly elections. Moreover, the scheme could become a new milestone for rural development in Maharashtra if implemented correctly.
