Bhivandi: Active participation from every segment of society is essential to make the Drug-Free India and Drug-Free Maharashtra campaigns successful. The police administration is continuously taking action against drugs at its level, but without society's cooperation, it is difficult to make this fight entirely successful. Police Commissioner of Thane City, Ashutosh Dumbare, said this during the drug-free awareness program held in Bhivandi.

Under the Drug-Free campaign, a reel competition was organized by Bhivandi Police Sub‑Inspector Parimandal‑2 to raise awareness about the adverse effects of drugs. The competition was held in two categories: participants under 18 years and those above 18 years. Participants who secured first, second, and third places in both categories were honored with awards.

Police Commissioner Dumbare said that the growing trend of drug consumption is a matter of concern. Due to drugs, many families are on the brink of ruin, and criminal tendencies are also being encouraged. He stated that if society, parents, teachers, and youth collaborate with the police, the drug‑free campaign can be made successful on a large scale.

The Police Commissioner mentioned that in the Thane Police Commissionerate area, about ₹25 crore worth of narcotics were seized during the year 2025. Likewise, in 2026, up to now, approximately ₹99 crore of intoxicants have been seized and action taken. He said that curbing drug trade along with public awareness is among the police's priorities.

The program was attended by MP Suresh Mhatré alias Balla Māmā, MLA Mahesh Chaougule, MLA Raees Sheikh, Mayor Narayan Chaudhary, Deputy Police Commissioner Gyaneshwar Chavhan, Police Sub‑Inspector Dr. Pawan Bansod, along with officers from the police department, representatives, and other dignitaries.
