BJP‑Shiv Sena‑Nationalist Claims Confronted: Who Gets Whose Seat?

Will the impasse be resolved at today’s meeting of Fadnavis, Shinde and Sunetra Pawar?

Mumbai, 30 (Anant Nalavde) – Against the backdrop of the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections, the dilemma of seat‑sharing within the Maha Yut has now reached a decisive turning point. Because the BJP, Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party have laid claims to seats from the Pune Graduates and Teachers constituencies to Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Amravati, the ruling alliance faces a major test of internal coordination. Following yesterday’s coordination‑committee discussions, all eyes are now on the meeting of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar.

However, there is keen interest in whether the meeting will resolve how many seats each party gets, which claims are accepted in which constituencies and who will withdraw. Yet, according to available information, the final formula has not yet been announced.

Pune becomes the true test of the Maha Yut…

The tug‑of‑war within the Maha Yut has intensified most over the Pune Graduates and Teachers seats. In the Pune Graduates constituency, the incumbent MLA from the Nationalist Congress Party, Arun Lad, holds the seat. BJP has reportedly floated the names of Sharad Lad and Rajesh Pande for this seat, while the NCP has put forward Pratap alias Bhaiya Mane. Shiv Sena leader Bhau Saheb Andhalekar has also demanded a nomination from the party for this constituency, further complicating the equation.

In the Pune Teachers constituency, BJP and Shiv Sena are also vying for the claim. While Shiv Sena has reportedly discussed the names of Mangesh Chivte and Prof. Dr. Sachin Sanap, senior BJP leader Chandrakant Patil has stated that both constituencies in Pune are traditionally BJP strongholds. Additionally, BJP has floated the name of Kaustubh Gavde.

Nagpur’s “Gad” and the internal tussle within BJP…

The Nagpur Graduates constituency is considered important for BJP. Linked with Gangadharrao Fadnavis, Nitin Gaddkari and Prof. Anil Sole, this constituency has seen an internal scramble among party candidates. Former MLA Sudhakar Kohale is said to have claimed that he received a nod from the party, while former MLA Prof. Anil Sole has also begun preparations for the Legislative Assembly again.

In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, there is also a claim‑counterclaim…

In the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Graduates constituency, the incumbent NCP MLA Satish Chavan is reportedly preparing to contest again. On the other hand, BJP has floated the names of M.K. Deshmukh and Kiran Patil. Thus, seat‑sharing within the Maha Yut will also be significant for this seat.

In Amravati, Shiv Sena’s claim…; BJP is also marching…

In the Amravati Teachers constituency, Shiv Sena is said to be maintaining its claim for the seat of incumbent MLA Kiran Sarnaik. Meanwhile, BJP has reportedly discussed the names of Dr. Sumit Pawar, Dr. Sunita Shinde and former MLA Dattatray Sawant.

Five seats, three parties, and one question… What is the formula…

Thus, the formula for seat‑sharing in the Maha Yut across the five constituencies—Pune Graduates, Pune Teachers, Nagpur Graduates, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Graduates and Amravati Teachers—will be crucial for upcoming political equations. With an increasing number of aspirants within all three ruling parties and the claims of component parties, leadership faces the challenge of aligning each party’s organizational strength with existing representation, local equations and electoral viability. Consequently, whether the final decision is made today or the discussion is postponed has drawn the attention of political circles. Primarily, the end of internal competition within the Maha Yut hinges on whether a component party must withdraw, which has now become the biggest political puzzle on the Legislative Assembly battlefield.
