Case filed against seven over allegations of dowry-related torture and retention of women's money.

City News Mumbai Gani Khan Bhiwandi: In the New Gauripada area, a woman has accused her husband and seven members of the in‑law side of harassing, beating and threatening her over dowry. The woman alleges that she was pressured to bring money from her parental home and that the in‑laws also kept the gold jewellery worth about 15.5 tolas that she received at the wedding.
According to Bohiwara police, the 42‑year‑old woman stated in her complaint that she lived at her in‑laws’ house in New Gauripada from 30 December 2014 to 29 May 2026. The complaint says that after a dispute with her husband, the in‑law side allegedly mentally harassed her and pressured her to bring money from her parental home. The woman claims that her husband asked her to bring 60 thousand rupees. When she did not bring the money, she was allegedly beaten and verbally abused.
The woman also alleged that the in‑laws taunted her and threatened to divorce her. The complaint further states that the various gold jewellery amounting to about 15.5 tolas that she received from her parental side at the wedding were kept by the husband and the in‑laws.
Bohiwara police have lodged a case against the husband Avsaar Ahmad Asrar Ahmad Sheikh, the father‑in‑law Asrar Ahmad Sheikh, the mother‑in‑law Ahmadi Asrar Ahmad Sheikh and a total of seven persons under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Dowry Prohibition Act. So far no arrest has been made. The investigation is being carried out by Police Havaldar Raut.
