Deadline until 12 October for claims and disputes: B.L.O. will collect documents from unmapped voters by visiting their homes.

Mumbai, 26:

Maharashtra’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has been extended by the Election Commission of India. Taking note of a request from the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, the commission in today’s meeting extended the deadline for filing claims and objections to 12 October 2026. A deadline of 10 November 2026 has been given for submitting notices, claims and objections, and Maharashtra’s final electoral roll will be published on 16 November 2026.

*BLO will go to houses to collect documents*

During the Special Intensive Revision, for citizens who have been served notices because they are ‘Unmapped’ voters or have ‘Logical Discrepancies’, the Booth Level Officer (BLO) will go to their homes and collect the necessary documents.

*No need to go to the office for a physical hearing*

Since document collection will be done from home, the concerned voters will not need to appear in person at the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) office for a hearing. Only in exceptional circumstances will a hearing be conducted online. In such a hearing, any adult family member may appear on behalf of the voter.

*Special assistance desks for homeless, laborers and needy citizens*

To facilitate homeless citizens, laborers, the poor and those residing in night shelters in the state in the process of voter registration and correction of the electoral roll, District Election Officers (DEO) will, as needed, set up special assistance desks and organize special camps, the Chief Electoral Officer’s office clarified in a press release.
