Saranik questions Narendra Mehta's assistance fund
Thane, Oct 3 (City News Mumbai)
Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has issued directives to take strict action against those collecting funds (donations) illegally in the name of helping farmers, given the drought situation in Maharashtra.
Today, under the guidance of MLA Narendra Mehta, a fair was organized across the city to collect funds for helping farmers. The mayor had announced that the municipal corporation would give 1 crore rupees, on which donations are being collected from across the city. Against this, Minister Pratap Sarnaik has filed a complaint. The mayor's name is not mentioned; it only states that action should be taken against those collecting donations.
Minister Sarnaik has sent a letter to the Thane District Collector and the Mira‑Bhayander Police Commissioner, urging immediate action in this matter. The letter states that certain individuals are collecting unauthorized funds and subscriptions in the name of drought‑affected farmers. It expresses concern that such people may be attempting to raise money for political or social events using the farmers' names.
The letter says that raising money illegally in the name of helping farmers is a serious matter. Sarnaik has also appealed to citizens to provide assistance only through authorized government channels rather than giving money directly to individuals or organizations.
He has instructed the administration and police to investigate such cases and take legal action against those collecting funds illegally.
Sarnaik said that no rupee will be used for any political self‑interest under the pretext of drought‑affected farmers, and the administration must take this request seriously and act immediately.
