Truck Driver Murder Case Exposed with Help of 150 CCTV Cameras; Two Suspects Arrested
City News Mumbai / Gani Khan Bhiwandi: Konkan police have uncovered a case of murder and robbery of a truck driver on the Bhiwandi‑Thane bypass road and arrested two suspects. The police identified the suspects using footage from about 150 CCTV cameras and technical investigation. This information was provided by Dr. Pawan Bansod, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bhiwandi Perimeter‑2, at a press conference.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Pawan Kumar Kajoo Mahato, a 33‑year‑old resident of Bihar. The arrested suspects are Rameez Abdul Rashid Ansari, 23, and Mohammad Alkaish Parvez Alam Momin, 25, both residents of Bhiwandi.
The police state that the incident occurred at around 2:45 a.m. on the Bhiwandi‑Thane bypass road near Tata Amnara. Pawan Kumar Mahato, driver of trailer number MH 46 BU 2110, had stopped his truck to eat. During this time the two suspects threatened him and attempted to rob him. When the driver resisted, the suspects stabbed him in the throat, killing him, and then fled on motorcycles with the cash he had on him.
Following the incident, a murder case was registered at the Konkan police station against unknown perpetrators. Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Pawan Bansod and Assistant Police Commissioner Sachin Sangale, Senior Police Inspector Mangesh Borse formed five investigation teams.
When no solid leads emerged from the crime scene, the police advanced the investigation based on the route described by eyewitnesses. The police teams examined footage from approximately 150 CCTV cameras in Bhiwandi city and around the crime scene for three consecutive days. After the suspects’ activities appeared in the footage, technical analysis enabled the police to locate and apprehend both suspects.
During police interrogation, both suspects admitted to the murder and robbery of the truck driver. The police say a case is already pending against Rameez Ansari. Meanwhile, about 18 cases, including theft and snatching, have been registered against Alkaish Momin at various police stations.
The police are continuing further investigation into the case.
