Revenue Administration Now Directly at Citizens' Doorstep!

Mumbai, dated 23 (Anant Nalavde) – The state government has taken a major step on Wednesday towards revamping the face of the state's revenue administration. Following the direction of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has decided to launch four new Sub‑Divisional Magistrate (SDM) offices and a total of 47 new Sub‑Tehsildar offices in the state. This is expected to reduce the travel, time and cost that rural citizens, who are far from district and taluka headquarters, have to incur frequently for revenue services.

New SDM offices will be opened in Baramati, Pune district; Pandharpur, Solapur; Dapoli, Ratnagiri; and Nagpur (Rural). At the same time, 47 Sub‑Tehsildar offices will be created across 21 districts of the state. The revenue department explained that the decision was taken considering rising population, urbanisation, geographic distances and increasing workload on revenue administration.

Shorter distance from headquarters; fewer hurdles for work......?

For revenue‑related certificates, land‑record mutations, rehabilitation, Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar scheme and other administrative work, citizens often have to reach the taluka or district headquarters. This is especially costly in terms of time and money for remote and tribal areas. The new offices will enable such citizens to obtain more revenue services locally.

Since the network of new Sub‑Tehsildar offices will stretch from the ultra‑remote Gadchiroli region to the expanding urban fringe of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the decision shows an effort to bring revenue administration closer to people rather than limiting it to district or tehsil offices.

New offices from Gadchiroli to Mumbai suburbs........

The new Sub‑Tehsildar offices will include Malewada, Vairagad, Pendhari, Asralli, Kasansur and Jimlagatta in Gadchiroli; Adyal and Bhandara in Chandrapur; Alipur in Wardha and Sindhi (Railway); as well as Buteebori, Hoodkeswar, Vanadongi, Pardi, Vadoda, Kondhali, Jalalkheda, Kodamendi and Veltur in Nagpur district. In addition, new offices will be set up in Washim, Buldhana, Yavatmal, Nanded, Latur, Parbhani, Jalna, Beed, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ahilyanagar, Nandurbar, Nashik, Kolhapur, Satara, Pune, Palghar and Mumbai suburban districts.

Expansion of revenue machinery in Mumbai......

In Mumbai Suburban district, Sub‑Tehsildar offices will be opened at Chembur, Malad and Vandre. In Palghar district, offices will be at Kasa, Virar and Boisar; in Pune district at Chakan; and in Satara district at Sakharwadi and Umbraj. Thus, revenue administration in rapidly urbanising areas will also receive additional mechanisms alongside rural areas.

Who will benefit exactly......?

Farmer: reduced travel for land records, mutations and revenue work.

Rural citizen: local facilities for certificates and other revenue services.

Residents of remote areas: reduced time and expense to reach district‑taluka headquarters.

Revenue administration: expected relief of increasing workload on main offices.

Urban areas: additional administrative mechanisms in view of rising population and rapid urbanisation.

Speaking on this, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said, “Our government is committed to ensuring that ordinary citizens in the hinterland, rural and remote parts of the state receive revenue services in an extremely easy and dynamic manner. To truly make the administration people‑centric, we have decided to establish 47 new Sub‑Tehsildar offices and 4 new Sub‑Divisional Magistrate offices.”
